A couple of weeks ago, at Open Source Summit Korea 2026 🇰🇷 , I quietly reached a milestone of my own, just as Linux celebrates its 35th anniversary. 🐧
In August 2016, I attended my first Open Source Summit in Toronto 🇨🇦, which was then called LinuxCon. At the time, I wasn’t yet a Linux kernel developer. There, I met Greg Kroah-Hartman for the first time during a “Meet Your Favorite Maintainer” session. 🫱🏽🫲🏻 We talked about the Linux kernel, among other things, and I had the opportunity to ask him several questions.
Little did I know that exactly ten years later, I would take part in my first “Ask the Experts” session. This time, I would be on the other side of a similar conversation, answering questions from attendees and sharing my experience in the Linux kernel community. 👨🏽💻 (And Greg himself was answering questions at the table next to mine.)
Looking back, the connection between those two moments feels especially meaningful, and I’m really grateful for the journey and the opportunities I’ve had along the way. 🙏🏼
It’s also a reminder that you never know what may grow from simply showing up, asking questions, and putting yourself out there. 🙌🏼
